West Covina has forfeited its 34-0 victory over Covina in its season opener that was televised on Fox Sports West because it used an ineligible player, a Covina coach confirmed on Tuesday.

The San Gabriel Valley Tribune reported that the school learned a player did not make a valid change of residence with both parents.

Even though the player is ineligible based on long-time transfer rules, new CIF rules that took effect this year could result in additional forfeits as schools try to figure out athletic eligibility.
