With head coach Todd Therrien not able to coach in the season opener (one-game suspension), first-year offensive coordinator Joe Goyeneche felt a little pressure calling the plays for Ventura St. Bonaventure last week against Garfield.

Quarterback Ricky Town ended up completing his first 10 passes, and St. Bonaventure won, 48-0.

Goyeneche coached St. Bonaventure’s junior varsity team for three years before moving up to varsity this season. Therrien believes he’s going to be a head coach one day.

St. Bonaventure plays Corona Centennial on Friday at Moorpark College. The game will be broadcast at 10:30 p.m. on Fox Sports West. Therrien will resume calling the plays, and the pressure will be on to get Town to duplicate his performance.
