In Southern California, football coaches are taking extra safety precautions because of the extreme heat that resulted in the Los Angeles County Health Office issuing a heat alert for Los Angeles County through Friday.

John Aguirre, a City Section assistant commissioner, said schools have been told that if the heat index is 100 to 104 degrees, practice must be rescheduled to a cooler time of the day. If the heat index is 105 and above, all practice will be canceled for the day.
