Football: Loyola’s second half wears down Harvard-Westlake

In the third quarter on Thursday night, six different Harvard-Westlake players went down with cramps. Loyola players had to know the Wolverines were getting worn down. The momentum changed.

Loyola scored 28 consecutive points in the second half to come away with a 42-27 victory over the Wolverines at L.A. Valley College.

The Cubs pounded the ball on the ground, with Wyatt Bradford rushing for 224 yards and scoring four touchdowns. Nico Evans added 100 yards rushing.

Harvard-Westlake wasted some terrific offensive numbers from quarterback Chad Kanoff, who completed 34 of 58 passes for 442 yards and four touchdowns with no interceptions. Clinton Hooks caught 13 passes for 122 yards and one touchdown Julian Shabahang caught 11 passes for 171 yards and three touchdowns.

‘Ugly W,’ Loyola Coach Mike Christensen said. ‘I don’t know if we could have played worse in the first half. It was a first game _ you could tell.’

Cameron Walker from Loyola had an 89-yard kickoff return and made some big plays running the ball. Loyola hurt itself with a series of mistakes. The Cubs were called for 13 penalties for 133 yards.

‘We’re doing some good things,’ Kanoff said. ‘We just have to do more of the good and less of the bad.’
