There won’t be a better 16-team high school baseball tournament in Southern California than the inaugural Boras Classic set for April 2-5 at San Juan Capistrano JSerra and Santa Ana Mater Dei.

The winner of the Southern California bracket will meet the winner of a 16-team Northern California bracket in the championship game on April 13 at the University of Pacific in what could become a mythical state championship game.

The partipating schools represent a who’s who of top baseball programs from the Southern Section and the City Section. There’s no entry fee, and each school will receive $1,000 for participating.

The 16 teams from the Southern California bracket: JSerra, Mater Dei, El Toro, Anaheim Canyon, Lakewood, Bishop Amat, Chatsworth, El Camino Real, Hart, West Ranch, Vista Murrieta, Great Oak, Oaks Christian, Loyola, Chaminade and Corona Santiago.

The 16 teams from the Northern California bracket are still being finalized. They will play March 25-29.

Each school is guaranteed playing four games. A fifth game will be for the schools that reach the championship.

I have to say for a first-year tournament, it should be pretty impressive.
