What’s so hard about being a pro baseball scout these days? All you have to do is follow the high school pitchers who committed to UCLA.

The Bruins lost three _ Max Fried, Lucas Giolito and Felipe Perez _ to the pros this past year.

But Coach John Savage already has commitments from three junior pitchers from the class of 2014 _ Grant Hockin of Damien, Jacob Nix of Los Alamitos and Griffin Canning of Santa Margarita.

Canning is a rising standout among the trio. He came on strong in the Trinity League last season as a sophomore, throwing strikes and getting people out with an outstanding curveball.

‘His stuff is electric,’ JSerra Coach Brett Kay said. ‘It’s pretty special.’

For the next two seasons, they’re going to be scrutinized, analyzed, tested and examined. Then we’ll see if they end up in college or signing a pro contract.
