The Area Code Baseball Tournament begins on Sunday in Long Beach, and senior catcher Jeremy Martinez of Santa Ana Mater Dei is being billed as the top professional prospect in the event.

He’s playing for a Milwaukee Brewers team that is loaded with Southern California all-stars. He has committed to USC and is expected to take over from Ty Moore (UCLA signee) as Mater Dei’s premier player next spring.

Also getting attention is Harvard-Westlake junior Jack Flaherty, who still hasn’t made a college choice. He played on the Wolverines’ team last season that produced two first-round draft picks, Max Fried and Lucas Giolito.

The Brewers’ first game is Monday at noon at Blair Field.
