Texas running back Johnathan Gray receives Gatorade’s top award

Johnathan Gray, a running back from Aledo, Texas, who rushed for 3,886 yards and 65 touchdowns last season, was named the Gatorade male athlete of the year on Tuesday night in Hollywood. He beat out basketball standout Jabari Parker from Chicago and baseball pitcher Lance McCullers Jr. from Tampa, Fla.

Connecticut-bound basketball player Breanna Stewart from North Syracuse Cicero High was named the female athlete of the year.
