The running backs this fall in the City Seciton have a tough act to follow. Who’s going to replace the likes of Robert Lewis (South East), Kawan Rally (El Camino Real) and De’Jon Coleman (Arleta)?

The top returning running back in terms of yards gained is Kendall Tillman of View Park. He rushed for 1,376 yards as a junior.

But the No. 1 back might be Marcus Stamps of Jefferson who’s also a standout linebacker. He has committed to San Diego State and runs out of the double wing formation. He rushed for 1,122 yards as a junior.

Other returning 1,000-yard rushers include Isaiah Hastings of Birmingham, Lance Fernandez of Garfield and Khyree Morgan of Canoga Park.

Don’t underestimate the Carson duo of Kendell Sparks and Tony Ingram. Crenshaw will use Mossi Johnson at times at running back. Kyle Jean of Van Nuys figures to be a 1,000-yard rusher. San Fernando’s Daemon Thompson will be a three-year starter. Fairfax has a strong runner in Adyn Haro. Beware of San Pedro’s Gregory Thomas, who broke off a 78-yard run against Crenshaw.

Alijah Lee of Venice is a junior with lots of speed.
