Football: A Servite-Santa Margarita showdown in July?

July 4, 2012 |  8:30 am

What's most intriguing about Saturday's seven-on-seven passing tournament at El Toro is that Santa Margarita and Servite will be in the 24-team tournament and could meet if both reach the championship round.

Action begins at 9 a.m., with the championship round scheduled for 3 p.m.

The best opening game has Ventura St. Bonaventure taking on Gardena Serra. Santa Margarita plays St. John Bosco at noon.

This will be an early opportunity to see if junior quarterback Neil Pau'u can win the starting job at Servite. Here's a look at the teams competing.

Pool A: Santa Margarita, Lakewood, El Toro, Rialto, Citrus Valley, St. John Bosco.

Pool B: Servite, Carlsbad, Cathedral Catholic, Damien, El Monte, Tri City Christian.

Pool C: St. Bonaventure, Serra, Long Beach Jordan, Paloma Valley, St. Monica, Rancho Christian.

Pool D: Hart, L.A. Cathedral, Charter Oak, Murrieta Mesa, Century, Malibu.
