Boys’ basketball: Kris Yanku scores 30 points in Taft victory

Hold off any predictions about the demise of defending City Section Division I champion Woodland Hills Taft.

Returning guard Kris Yanku isn’t about to let the Toreadors slip. He scored 30 points on Monday in Taft’s 68-51 victory over Compton in an opening game of the St. John Bosco tournament.

‘He’s been playing well,’ Taft Coach C.J. Williams said.

St. John Bosco defeated Palmdale, 59-51. Darien Williams scored 25 points. EJ Mitchell scored 21 points for Palmdale. St. John Bosco plays Sylmar on Tuesday at 6:45 p.m. and is expected to have Isaac Hamilton.

Inglewood defeated Compton Centennial, 53-41. Kris Randall scored 21 points. Fairfax defeated Lawndale, 50-48.

EJ Johnson scored 30 points in Dominguez’s 57-53 win over Windward. Lamond Murray Jr. scored 33 points in Bishop Montgomery’s 90-50 win over Redondo. Jose Estrada had 31 points in Cantwell-Sacred Heart’s 58-55 win over Santa Margarita.

Sylmar defeated Beverly Hills, 62-48. Moorpark defeated Gardena Serra, 63-62.
