Former Harvard-Westlake pitcher Max Fried has earned a place in Jewish sports history. He was one of the highest selected Jewish players taken in the amateur baseball draft when the San Diego Padres took him No. 7 overall.

According to the Jewish Sports Review, the only Jewish players chosen higher were Ron Blomberg, taken No. 1 overall in 1967; Mike Lieberthal, taken No. 3 overall in 1990 out of Westlake High; Justin Wayne, taken No. 5 overall in 2000 out of Stanford, and Ryan Braun, a Granada Hills graduate taken No. 5 overall in 2005 out of Miami.
