Baseball: Loyola's pitching depth comes through in winning title

The summer of 2012 will be known as the time Los Angeles Loyola demonstrated quality pitching depth that led to the championship in the Valley Invitational Baseball League.

Loyola defeated Chatsworth, 2-1, on Monday night to win the VIBL title behind junior Kyle Beadles, who threw a four-hitter.

Coach Brian Felten relied on Beadles and three other pitchers in the tournament _ senior Chad Powers and juniors Quinn Brodey and Nathan Hadley.

"We have a nice problem on our hands, where we have a bunch of guys who can throw," Felten said.

Junior shortstop Angelo Armenta drew a bases-loaded walk in the sixth for the go-ahead run. Beadles retired the final 10 batters in order.
