The Valley Invitational Baseball League is preparing for playoff action later this month, and one pitcher to watch is senior Andy Frakes of Encino Crespi.

Since he became a sidearmer in the middle of his sophomore season, his pitching potential has soared. Last season as a junior, he went 5-4 with a 1.17 ERA while making first-team all-Mission League.

This summer, he’s 4-0 with an 0.76 ERA after throwing a four-hit shutout on Thursday night against Sylmar.

Crespi Coach Scott Muckey has been known to produce a standout sidearmer on occasion, and Frakes appears to be his latest success story.
