Track & Field: Rio Mesa and Serra top 4x100 relays

Oxnard Rio Mesa’s Roderick White, Blake Selig, Darion Zimmerman and Cameron Roach posted the fastest qualifying time in the boys 4x100 at the state prelims in Clovis. The Spartans took first place in their heat in 41.14 seconds.

Westlake Village Oaks Christian was second overall and won its heat in 41.31. Sherman Oaks Notre Dame won Heat 2 in the third-best time (41.36) and Gardena Serra won Heat 3 in 41.58, fourth fastest overall.

Two other Southland teams qualified for Saturday’s finals: Long Beach Poly (fifth overall in 41.41) and Los Angeles Loyola (seventh in 41.68).

Serra’s foursome of Jade Pavajeau, Renetia James, Maya Brown and Alexis Faulknor posted the fastest qualifying time in the girls 4x100, winning Heat 2 in 46.01. Inglewood St. Mary’s Academy was second overall and won Heat 3 with a time of 46.53 and Poly won the first heat in 46.56.

Also qualifying for the finals were Oaks Christian (fourth overall in 47.22) and Vista Murrieta (fifth in 47.37).
