Times columnist Eric Sondheimer wins writing award

Times columnist Eric Sondheimer has been honored by the California Prep Sports Writers Assn. for writing its top column in the last year.

It is the fifth time Sondheimer, who came to The Times in 1997, has been given the award, winning it previously in 2007, 2008, 2010 and 2011.

The columns honored were on how football players at St. Genevieve learn about character and commitment in innovative ways and the turmoil that struck the Santa Margarita football program and Coach Harry Welch.
