The surplus from the 1984 Los Angeles Olympic Games is continuing to benefit youth sports organizations in Southern California. The LA84 Foundation awarded $1,101,238 in grants to 28 youth sports programs throughout Southern California. Since its inception, the Foundation has given out more than $200 million.

The largest grant was $500,000 given to the Beyond the Bell program of the Los Angeles Unified School District that runs after school sports programs for 95 middle schools in the district.

Students Run LA received $125,000 that will be used to train 3,000 middle and high school students to run in the LA Marathon.

Grants to Friends of EXPO Center ($60,000) and Rose Bowl Aquatics Center ($52,688) will be used to offer swim lessons during the school day.
