Football: Oaks Christian goes 3-0 on first day of Saugus tournament
Westlake Village Oaks Christian could be ready to challenge Alemany and Crespi for the championship in the seven-on-seven Saugus passing tournament this weekend.
The Lions started impressively on Friday by going 3-0, including a rout of Long Beach Poly. Quarterback Brandon Dawkins was making accurate passes.
Alemany and Crespi also went 3-0 in the tournament that continues on Saturday at 4 p.m. with the championship round at Central Park.
One of the most intriguing players is Moorpark senior cornerback-receiver Chad Hansen. He has grown two inches since last season to 6-feet-3, finished second in the 100 meters in the Marmonte League track finals and did a good job covering Hart's Trent Irwin on Friday. And he figures to keep growing, because Coach Tim Lins said, "He doesn't even shave yet."
Thousand Oaks performed well behind 6-3 junior backup quarterback Case Cookus, who plays football, basketball and baseball and was filling in for starter Clark Abourisk.
