Boys' basketball: Memorial service set for Coach Yutaka Shimizu

A memorial service for former Hamilton and Granada Hills Kennedy Coach Yutaka Shimizu will be held on Friday from 10 a.m. to noon in the Bellflower St. John Bosco gym.

Shimizu died on June 10. He was 84.

Former players and coaches who have known Shimizu since he began coaching in 1959 have been posting messages on a special Facebook page.

Shimizu coached for more than 50 years. He was serving as an assistant coach at St. John Bosco.
