Boys' basketball: El Camino Real pulls away from Crespi
Woodland Hills El Camino Real has City Section Division I title aspirations, but the Conquistadores didn't appear too inspired in struggling to a 67-52 victory over Encino Crespi in an opening game of the Fairfax touranment.
Crespi trailed by as many as 18 points in the first half, then rallied to take a four-point lead with 4 1/2 minutes left. But a dislocated pinkie to DJ Ursery, who had scored 10 points in the second half, halted the Celts' rally. El Camino Real went on a 21-3 run to earn a quarterfinal game on Thursday at 8:30 p.m.
Evan Wardlow scored 18 points and Michael Thomas 14. Crespi received 12 points from freshman Max Heidegger and 11 from London Perrantes. El Camino Real will play either Mater Dei on Thursday at 8:30 p.m. in the quarterfinals. Mater Dei defeated Campbell Hall, 107-77.
Orange Lutheran defeated Alemany, 74-68. Payton Banks scored 28 points. Bear Henderson led Alemany with 20 points. The Lancers will play Long Beach Poly in Thursday's 7 p.m. quarterfinals.
After a 19-19 halftime deadlock, Poly routed Oaks Christian, 57-32. Kameron Chatman scored 12 of his 14 points in the second half. Earlier, it was announced that Oaks Christian Coach Andre Chevalier had resigned after two seasons.
