So much for a projected Loyola-St. John Bosco semifinal game of the Fairfax tournament. The Braves didn’t make it past the first round after West Hills Chaminade came away with a 73-65 victory on Monday.

And Pasadena knocked off Loyola, 66-57, with Andre Spight, a transfer from Burbank, scoring 21 points, and Ajon Efferson adding 18 points.

Jaron Martin scored 26 points and Jack Williams had 21 points for Chaminade. St. John Bosco didn’t have Isaac Hamilton, who was attending a camp, but the Braves had brother Daniel Hamilton, who scored 24 points, and 6-9 Devin Burleson, who scored 17 points.

Chaminade has made steady improvement this summer after struggling early on while learning to play with 6-10 freshman Trevor Stanback. The Eagles did well using a pick-and-roll attack, with Martin getting open and firing away.

‘It’s such a young team,’ Chaminade Coach Todd Wolfson said. ‘All these wins during the summer build our confidence and build our chemistry.’

Chaminade advances to a quarterfinal game on Wednesday at 8:30 p.m. against Mission League rival Harvard-Westlake, which defeated Santa Monica, 95-88.

The Wolverines are 11-1 this summer. Junior point guard Michael Sheng is outstanding, and 6-6 junior Derick Newton is one of the best from the Mission League. Newton scored 31 points and Sheng had 24 points. Sheng made 15 of 16 free throws. Trevis Jackson scored 33 points for Santa Monica, which played without Jordan Mathews.

Fairfax defeated La Canada, 69-41. Chaunce Hill scored 13 points. Fairfax will face Pasadena on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
