Baseball: Jeremy Martinez earns gold medal after getting five walks

When it comes to contributing to a team's victory, Santa Ana Mater Dei catcher Jeremy Martinez sure did his best on Sunday in helping his Pony team defeat Babe Ruth, 5-3, in the gold medal game of the Tournament of Stars in Cary, N.C.

Martinez walked five times and scored two runs. He hit .400 in the tournament. Also on the Pony team earning a gold medal was Palisades infielder Elliot Barzilli, who had one hit in the victory.

The players are in North Carolina trying to make the U18 USA national team. The 40-player finalists will be announced on Sunday.
