Track: Loyola’s Morgan Simon shows speed at Division 2 prelims

Los Angeles Loyola athletes gave a strong showing on Saturday at the Southern Section Division 2 track and field prelims at Moorpark, led by junior Morgan Simon, who had the fastest times of the day in the 100 (10.64) and the 200 (21.34).

Temmate Josh Lewis ran 1:56.17 in the 800 to lead all qualifiers, and the Cubs’ 400-meter relay team was first in 41.91.

Arroyo Grande’s Garrett Weinreich had the best mark in the shot put at 61-1 1/2. Newport Harbor’s Ethan Cochran was right behind at 60-1 1/2 and also had the best mark in the discus at 196-1.

Simi Valley sophomore Sarah Baxter was fastest in the girls’ 1,600 (4:51.12) and the 3,200 (10:21.17)
