Track & Field: Redlands siblings qualify for state meet

Margaux Jones, a freshman from Redlands, leaped 19 feet, four and a half inches to win the girls long jump event at the Southern Section Masters Meet. She qualifies for next week’s state championships.

Jones’ brother Walter, a junior, qualified for the state in two events--finishing second in the long jump (23’ 6.25’) and fourth in the triple jump (47’ 1.75’).

La Sierra’s Tanya Sapa won won the girls shot put with a throw of 46’ 9.50’ and Garrett Weinreich of Arroyo Grande won the boys shot put with a distance of 61’ 8.’ Madison Jacobs, also of Arroyo Grande, won the girls discus with a throw of 150 feet, one inch.

In other field events, Raegan Nizdil of Oxnard Rio Mesa cleared 5’ 7’ to win the girls high jump and Connor Stark of Oak Park cleared 15’ 9’ to win the boys pole vault.
