Dustin Watanabe, the valedictorian at Woodland Hills Taft with a 4.8 grade-point average, is also a pretty good golfer. He shot a 3-under 69 on Monday at Wilson Golf Course to win the City Section individual championship.

‘It means the world,’ he said. ‘I wanted to make my coach proud.’

Coach Ed Tucker said, ‘He’s the greatest kid.’

Watanabe, who plans to attend UCLA, defeated defending champion Troix Tonkham, who shot 71.
