Sam Bush, a 6-foot-5, 290-pound sophomore lineman at Newport Harbor, is transferring to Santa Ana Mater Dei, his father told the Daily Pilot.

He will be among the first to take advantage of the new CIF transfer rules, where he won’t have to move and he’ll become eligible on Oct. 1.

All those who say the new transfer rule won’t be a big deal in high school sports in Southern Californa, my response is just wait.

And for the public-school leagues that were so quick to vote in favor of the rule, such as the Marmonte and Big VIII leagues, be careful what you wish for.
