Football: Donation will help athletes be monitored for concussions

A $5,000 donation from the Southern California Orthopedic Research and Education Center to 10 area high schools will allow varsity football players access to neurocognitive assessments and post-concussion testing regardless of their healthcare insurance or income.

ImPACT is a computerized assessment tool used for professional athletes that has been provided to some local high school athletes. Participating schools will be Alemany, Canyon Country Canyon, Crespi, Hart, Sherman Oaks Notre Dame, Harvard-Westlake, Oaks Christian, St. Francis, Valencia and West Ranch.

The donation will fund Wells Fargo’s ‘Play It Safe Concussion Care’ insurance program.
