Bill Redell’s retirement from coaching appears to have lasted a mere two months.

Redell, 71, who announced his retirement as football coach at Westlake Village Oaks Christian High on March 14, is in negotiations to become the new coach at Occidental College.

‘It’s my alma mater, and if I can help them for a few years, I will,’ Redell said Thursday night.

Redell was at Occidental on Thursday meeting with the football staff. He said he is ‘strongly considering’ becoming the coach.

Occidental is looking for a new coach after the firing of Dale Widolff, whose 30-year career at the Eagle Rock campus ended during an NCAA investigation into alleged recruiting violations.

Redell played at Occidental and is a member of the College Football Hall of Fame. He started the Oaks Christian program in 2000 and won seven Southern Section titles. His career record is 233-35-3. He has coached in college before, serving as an assistant at Cal State Fullerton in 1970 and at Cal Lutheran in 1980-81.
