Boys’ volleyball: Oak Park wins its first section title

The fifth time was a charm for Oak Park, which came out on top for the first time in five trips to the CIF Southern Section finals.

The top-seeded Eagles (30-6) won the Division 2 championship Saturday at Cypress College, coming from behind to defeat second-seeded Newport Beach Corona del Mar, 22-25, 25-22, 25-17, 25-21.

Senior outside hitter Justin Parks led the Eagles with 22 kills while Sam Saltman had 22 assists and Mike Campbell had five blocks. Oak Park last made the finals in 2010, losing to Norco in Division 3.

Parker Brown had 25 kills to lead the Sea Kings (25-6).

Pioneer League winner and second-seeded South Torrance (30-7) upset San Gabriel Valley League winner and #1-seeded Downey Warren, 25-22, 25-18, 20-25, 25-21, in the Division 3 championship match.
