Talk about tough summer basketball tournaments. The Fairfax Summer Classic, set for June 25-30, has so many tough opening-round games that the scoreboard operator might deserve a raise after all the overtime periods.

First up at 4 p.m. on Monday, June 25, is St. John Bosco playing Chaminade (changed from earlier version). St. John Bosco returns the Hamilton brothers, Isaac and Daniel. Chaminade has 6-8 Jack Williams and Jaron Martin.

At 5:30 p.m., it’s Santa Monica-Harvard-Westlake. Santa Monica has Jordan Mathews. Harvard-Westlake has Derick Newton.

At 7 p.m., it’s Fairfax-La Canada. At 8:30 p.m., it’s Loyola and Pasadena. Loyola has its guard trio of Parker Cartwright, Trey Mason and Max Hazzard. Pasadena has Brandon Jolley.

Then, on Tuesday at 4 p.m., it’s Crespi and London Perrantes taking on one of the City Section title favorites, El Camino Real. At 5:30 p.m., state Division III champion Alemany plays Orange Lutheran. At 7 p.m., powerful Long Beach Poly plays Oaks Christian. And to top the night off, Mater Dei plays Campbell Hall and Aaron Holiday at 8:30 p.m.

Campbell Hall is searching for a new coach, so playing Mater Dei isn’t exactly a great way to welcome the new coach.

The championship game will be played at 6 p.m. on June 30 and televised on Time Warner Cable.
