Baseball: Newbury Park takes 5-2 lead over Mater Dei

With a pair of No. 2 pitchers on the mound, the Newbury Park-Mater Dei Division 1 semifinal could come down to which team has the lead when the aces get brought in.

Mater Dei scored two runs in the first on RBI singles by Ryan McMahon and Ryan Barr off Matt Haskins.

But Mater Dei pitcher Davis Tominaga didn’t make it out of the first. He walked three and the Monarchs committed two errors as Newbury Park scored five runs in the first. Luke Eubank had an RBI single, Daniel Barnett had a squeeze bunt and Zander Clarke contributed a two-run double.

Update: Haskins has thrown five innings, and Newbury Park has a 5-3 lead over Mater Dei.
