Baseball: Loyola upsets Harvard-Westlake in Mission League
The Mission League is going down to the final game with an uncertain ending after Los Angeles Loyola knocked off first-place Harvard-Westlake, 7-6, on Tuesday. The Cubs opened a 5-0 lead and held on behind relief pitcher Kyle Beadles, who shut down the Wolverines over the final two innings.
Jack Flaherty went four for four with a home run for Harvard-Westlake. Loyola hit Harvard-Westlake ace Max Fried hard and forced him from the game. Fried gave up eight hits and six runs in 3 2/3 innings.
With one game to play, Harvard-Westlake is 8-2-1, Alemany 7-3-1, Loyola 7-4 and Chaminade 7-5. Harvard-Westlake plays at Loyola on Thursday.
Alemany defeated St. Francis, 16-2. Peter Van Gansen had three hits and Corey Messmore hit a three-run home run. Crespi defeated Sherman Oaks Notre Dame, 13-8. Andre Angel Bello had four hits for Crespi.
