Baseball: Kiefer Kofman gives pitching lift to Chatsworth

Kiefer Kofman was supposed to be the ace pitcher for Chatsworth this season, but a shoulder injury suffered sliding early in the season wiped out those plans _ until now.

Kofman is back and providing badly needed strong pitching for the Chancellors. He threw a five-hitter in Chatsworth’s 7-1 West Valley League win over Cleveland. He struck out five. Chris DeVito had two hits and Justin Vega had two RBIs.

El Camino Real remained tied for first place with Chatsworth after a 14-11 victory over Birmingham. The Conquistadores opened a 13-2 lead and survived a seventh-inning comeback attempt by the Patriots. Daniel Gomez had a three-run double for Birmingham. Yannick Villanueva and Justin Russell had three hits each for El Camino Real.

Granada Hills defeated Taft, 5-4. Edgar Rosales threw a complete game.

In the Valley Mission League, Kennedy defeated Sylmar, 7-3. Moises Ceja won his seventh game and David Negrete contributed a triple and double.

In the East Valley League, Monroe defeated North Hollywood, 2-1, on a seventh-inning error. Poly defeated Grant, 6-2.

In the Northern League, Lincoln pulled out a 9-8 win over Wilson in 10 innings on a walk-off double by Adam Martinez. Lincolin is 10-0 in league.

In the Marine League, San Pedro won its 15th consecutive game with a 5-1 victory over Carson. Banning defeated Narbonne, 2-1.
