The City Section Division I playoffs begin on Tuesday, and for once, there might be some close first-round games.

No. 3-seeded San Fernando hosts Granada Hills in its opener. San Fernando Coach Armando Gomez still hasn’t decided whether he’s going to start ace Alonzo Garcia (11-0) or go with No. 2 pitcher Kevin Martinez.

Granada Hills is no typical first-round opponent. It owns a win over No. 1-seeded El Camino Real and gave No. 2-seeded Chatsworth all it could handle in a West Valley League finale.

Granada Hills is expected to use No. 2 pitcher Edgar Rosales (6-2).

Western League champion Palisades went 12-0 in league and is supposed to be the favorite against visiting Birmingham, but the Patriots defeated Palisades in a nonleague game, 4-3.

The winners of Granada Hills-San Fernando and Palisades-Birmingham will meet in the quarterfinals on Thursday.
