Baseball: Harvard-Westlake wins Mission League title

Despite losing its No. 1 pitcher, Lucas Giolito, to injury in early March, Studio City Harvard-Westlake found other contributors and won the Mission League championship on Thursday with a 7-3 victory over Los Angeles Loyola.

Arden Pabst had three hits and three RBIs and Max Fried hit a home run. Casey Rosenfeld had two hits and two RBIs. Jack Flaherty scattered five hits for the pitching victory. Quinn Brody hit a two-run home run for Loyola and Brandon Caruso also homered.

Alemany finished in second place after a 6-1 victory over St. Francis. Cory Messmore threw a complete game. Chse Davis had two hits and Corey Sims had a two-run single. Crespi defeated Notre Dame, 3-1. Andy Frakes picked up the win.

In the Foothill League, Saugus defeated West Ranch, 2-1. Chad Bennett threw five innings to earn the win. Justin Donatella got the save. Valencia defeated Canyon, 9-1. Golden Valley defeated Hart, 3-2, for its first league win. West Ranch finished first, Saugus second, Valencia third and Hart fourth.
