Baseball: El Camino Real’s bats come alive in 10-1 win

El Camino Real was clinging to a 2-1 lead in the sixth inning when its hitters finally got to Cleveland pitcher Jack Hartman, and the Conquistadores went on to secure a 10-1 victory and remain tied for first place with Chatsworth in the West Valley League.

JJ Crane had a two-run triple in the sixth and finished with three RBIs. Yannick Villanueva continued his hot hitting with three RBIs. Nick Snyder had a two-run home run. Hayden Rappoport, Chris Nicholson and Michael Pope had two hits apiece. Luke Laurita threw a two-hitter.

El Camino Real is 7-2 in league, the same as Chatsworth, which defeated Granada Hills, 4-0. Jason Karkenny threw the shutout with a four-hitter. Chris DeVito and Justin Vega had two hits apiece.

El Camino Real hosts Cleveland in its regular-season finale on Friday. Chatsworth hosts Granada Hills. Taft defeated Birmingham, 4-3, in eight innings. Ramsey Abushahla went four for four. Nick Gendian struck out 10 and walked none in a complete-game victory.

In the Valley Mission League, sophomore Alonzo Garcia (11-0) struck out 11 and allowed two hits in San Fernando’s 1-0 victory over Sylmar.

In the East Valley League, Grant defeated North Hollywood, 3-2.

In the Northern League, Marshall moved into a first-place tie with Lincoln after beating the Tigers, 4-3.
