Baseball: Cleveland upsets Chatsworth
Reseda Cleveland has thrown the West Valley League baseball race into a tight one after upsetting first-place Chatsworth, 3-2. Jack Hartman threw a complete game and Peyton Long hit a two-run home run.
El Camino Real defeated Birmingham, 10-0, with JJ Crane getting three hits, Mitchell Dergazarian contributing three RBIs and Luke Laurita throwing a complete game. El Camino Real and Chatsworth are tied for first place with 5-2 records. Taft defeated Granada Hills, 6-5. Nick Gendian threw a complete game.
In the Valley Mission League, David Hibbert had three hits and seven RBIs in Granada Hills Kennedy's 12-0 win over Sylmar. Pablo Gonzalez threw the shutout. In the East Valley League, Andrew Marmor pitched a complete game and had two hits in North Hollywood's 8-1 win over Monroe. Grant defeated Poly, 11-1. Arleta defeated Sun Valley, 14-0. In the Northern League, Lincoln defeated Eagle Rock, 10-3.
In the Mission League, Alemany defeated Notre Dame, 5-1. Cody Thompson (8-1) struck out eight. Cory Messmore had three RBIs.
In the Moore League, Chris Castellanos threw another shutout to lead Long Beach Poly past Millikan, 3-0.
In the Century League, Scott Mason struck out 11 to lift Esperanza past El Dorado, 4-0.
In the Trinity League, Cole Irvin threw a two-hitter as Servite defeated Santa Margarita, 1-0.
In the Foothill League, West Ranch defeated Hart, 7-0. JC Cloney struck out 12 in six innings. Casey Gahan was three for three with two doubles.
In the Big VIII, Jack Johnson struck out nine in Riverside North's 8-1 victory over Corona Roosevelt. Gabe Franca had three hits and two RBIs.
Cypress defeated La Palma Kennedy, 6-0. Isaiah Terrazas allowed two hits. David Fletcher had three hits.
In the Tri-Valley League, Derek Galvin struck out 12 in Oak Park's 2-1 win over Grace Brethren. Oaks Christian defeated Carpinteria, 2-1, in 10 innings.
Paraclete improved to 19-2 with a 7-2 win over Campbell Hall. Mylz Jones had two doubles. James Cabrera struck out six and allowed three hits.
