Khalfani Muhammad of Sherman Oaks Notre Dame has won the Invitational boys 100-meter dash at the Mt. SAC Relays in Walnut. Muhammad crossed the finish line in 10.55 seconds, just one hundredth of a second off his personal best, which he clocked last week at the Maurice Greene Invitational.

The Knights’ junior sprinter has bounced back strong since finishing a disappointing fourth at the Arcadia Invitational early this month. Andre McBride of San Leandro was second in 10.63 and Corona Roosevelt’s Elijah Mitchell, who ran 10.58 to beat Muhammad at Arcadia, was third Saturday in 10.67.

Muhammad’s victory propelled Notre Dame into the lead in the boys team standings with 34 points. Los Angeles Loyola is second with 28 points and Rancho Cucamonga is third with 23 points.

Darren Andrews of La Puente Bishop Amat won the seeded 100-meter dash in 10.76. Sydney Ashle Lewis of Oak Park was runner-up in the Invitational girls 100 meters with a time of 11.90 and Sierra Peterson from Inglewood St. Mary’s Academy won the seeded 100 meters in 12.09, edging San Marino’s Omhunique Brown by five hundredths of a second.
