Ty Moore of Santa Ana Mater Dei is supposed to be an outfielder next season for UCLA. Bruins Coach John Savage may have to consider putting him on the mound the way he has been pitching.

Moore threw a four-hitter on Wednesday, striking out five and walking none in a 1-0 victory over Orange Lutheran at Hart Park. He’s 8-1 with an ERA under 0.40.

The victory moves Mater Dei (17-4, 9-1), ranked No. 1 by The Times, into a tie for first place in the Trinity League with No. 2 Orange Lutheran (16-4, 9-1).

Moore scored the game’s only run on an RBI single in the sixth inning by Jeremy Martinez, a USC commit. Moore reached base on an error.

Art Vidrio was the losing pitcher, giving up three hits in 5 1/3 innings.
