There was drama and excitement on Tuesday in a Century League showdown between host Anaheim Esperanza and Placentia El Dorado.

A pitcher’s duel between Esperanza’s Brandon Luper and El Dorado’s Kyle Twomey lived up to the pre-game hype.

It was a 1-1 game until El Dorado’s Nate Alam delivered an RBI double in the top of the seventh inning. Esperanza came back to load the bases with two outs in the bottom of the seventh, but Twomey got Brad Anderson to hit into a force out, giving El Dorado a 2-1 victory.

Twomey, the most valuable player from last week’s National Classic and a USC signee, struck out nine and allowed four hits. El Dorado improved to 13-5 and 7-2 in league. Esperanza dropped to 14-4 and 8-1.
