Baseball: Jerry Ismerio’s two-run home run sparks Chatsworth

Chatsworth was trailing Birmingham, 1-0, in the fifth inning on Wednesday when Jerry Ismerio belted a two-run home run. The Chancellors went on to secure a 3-1 victory over the Patriots to move into a tie for first place in the West Valley League.

Jason Karkenny threw a complete game to outduel Daniel Rivas. Scott Voets and Hayden Tsutsui each had two hits for the Chancellors (18-3-1), who are 4-1 in league. Birmingham is 15-9 and 4-1.

Cleveland picked up its second league win with a 4-2 victory over Granada Hills. Jack Hartman threw a complete game. Joseph Goring had a home run and three hits for Granada Hills.

El Camino Real was awarded a forfeit victory over Taft after two Taft coaches were ejected in the top of the ninth inning with El Camino Real ahead, 5-4.

In the Sunset League, Edison pulled out a 2-1 win over Huntington Beach in 12 innings on a Brett Adams RBI single.

In the Marmonte League, Luke Eubank (7-0) struck out eight and threw a complete game in Newbury Park’s 6-4 win over Simi Valley.

Agoura (15-2-1, 9-0) stayed in first place in the Marmonte with a 1-0 victory over Westlake. Henry Baker got a strikeout with the tying and winning runs on base. Baker, a junior, threw 3 1/3 innings of one-hit relief, strking out seven. Moorpark defeated Calabasas, 8-5. Blake Chiaramonte had three hits.

In the Big VIII League, Riverside North defeated Corona Centennial, 11-1. Jack Johnson allowed three hits in six innings, striking out two and walking none.

In the Century League, Chris Zamora hit a home run and finished with three RBIs in El Modena’s 8-3 win over Esperanza.

In the East Valley League, North Hollywood defeated Arleta, 3-2, in nine innings. Andrew Marmor had two hits, two RBIs and picked up the win in relief. Verdugo Hills (17-10, 9-1) defeated Poly, 3-1. Gabe Guerra had two hits.

In the Pacific League, Elliot Surrey struck out nine in five innings of Crescenta Valley’s 16-1 win over Hoover. He also had two doubles and a grand slam. Cole Currie and Troy Mulcahey also hit home runs. Burbank defeated Glendale, 7-1. Harrison Hernandez had three hits.
