Baseball: El Dorado reaches National Classic final
Cameron Yen allowed one run in six innings and Drew Winter contributed two hits and three RBIs to lead Placentia El Dorado past Florida IMG, 7-1, in a semifinal game of the Hard 9 National Classic on Wednesday at Cal State Fullerton.
El Dorado (11-5) scored five runs in the fourth inning to break open a 2-1 game. Winter's two-run single and P.J. Conlon's two-run triple were the big hits in the inning.
Yen, a senior left-hander, struck out five, walked two and gave up four hits in his six-inning stint that sends El Dorado into Thursday's 7:30 p.m. championship game El Toro at Fullerton. El Toro defeated Esperanza, 9-6.
Sophomore Nate Alam had a single and double to support Winter.
Cypress advanced to the consolation final with a 4-0 win over Galeno. Garden Grove Pacifica will face Cypress after knocking off Mission Hills Alemany, 5-0. Bishop Amat defeated Carlsbad, 5-3. Ocean View defeated Chaminade, 7-6.
In Florida, Loyola defeated Miami Belen Jesuit, 12-2. Quinn Brodey was two for two with two RBIs and Jack Welsh had two hits and three RBIs.
In Las Vegas, Oaks Christian (11-4) defeated Menlo, 12-2. Harrison Hoff had three hits and three RBIs. Jack Kruger added two doubles and Brandon Evans had three RBIs.
