Baseball: Chatsworth takes over West Valley lead with 15-0 win

Before the second inning had been completed on Friday, Chatsworth opened a 13-0 lead over Birmingham in a game for first place in the West Valley League. It was ended by the mercy rule, 15-0.

Chatsworth (19-3-, 5-1) welcomed back in a starting role pitcher Kiefer Kofman, who was supposed to be the team’s ace until he injured his non-pitching shoulder sliding early in the season. He allowed one hit in five innings.

Chris DeVito had two hits and four RBIs. Scott Voets and Jerry Ismerio had two hits and two RBIs. Birmingham dropped to 4-2 in league.

El Camino Real defeated Taft, 11-1, in five innings. Yannick Villanueva went four for four. Mason Novak had three RBIs.

Granada Hills defeated Cleveland, 4-3. Edgar Rosales threw a complete game and Justin Castaneda had three hits. Nick Marcaccio added two hits. Jack Hartman contributed two doubles for the Cavaliers.

In the East Valley League, Verdugo Hills defeated Poly, 8-2. Brandon Mona went four for four. Verdugo Hills (18-10, 10-1) clinched its first East Valley title since 2009. Arleta defeated North Hollywood, 1-0.

In the Western League, Taylor Stokes struck out 11 in Palisades’ 2-0 win over Venice. In the Marine League, San Pedro won its 12th consecutive game with a 4-3 win over Narbonne.
