Los Angeles Windward gets its chance to avenge a stunning 82-77 triple overtime loss to Gardena Serra in the Southern Section Division 4AA girls’ championship game when the two powerhouses play Tuesday at 6 p.m. at Los Angeles Southwest College in a Division IV semifinal game of the Southern California Regionals.

‘Serra was better than us that day and they beat us,’ Windward Coach Steve Smith said more than a week ago. ‘But it will be interesting to see how we respond in the state playoffs.’

So far, Windward has responded well.

‘We’re capable of playing great basketball as we’ve shown throughout the season,’ he said.

Windward was ranked one of the top teams in the nation before its upset in the championship game. The winner will likely get to play top-seeded La Jolla Country Day in Saturday’s regional final at Ontario Colony.
