To say that San Luis Obispo Mission Prep entered Saturday’s CIF Division V state championship game with a monkey on its back is an understatement. It’s more like a King Kong-sized gorilla.

The Royals are 0-6 in state finals, but they are three quarters away from ending their drought. After falling behind 8-4 they have come back to take a 17-12 lead over Stockton Brookside Christian through one quarter of play at Power Balance Pavilion in Sacramento.

Mission Prep, a perennial Southern Section juggernaut, has won 29 straight games since an 11-point loss to Bakersfield Independence on December 3. Senior forward Bri Harvey already has eight points for the Royals.
