Girls’ basketball: La Jolla Country Day 23, Gardena Serra 17 at halftime

After squandering a nine-point lead, top-seeded La Jolla Country Day regained control behind strong offensive efforts from Kelsey Plum and Malina Hood and has a 23-17 halftime lead over second-seeded Gardena Serra in the Division IV Southern California Regional final at Ontario Colony High on Saturday.

Caila Hailey made a three-pointer to give Serra its first lead of the game at 13-11 with about six minutes remaining in the first half.

But Plum and Hood, who have 11 points and six points, respectively, quickly helped change that.

Neither team is shooting well.

The Torreys are shooting 33.3% and the Cavaliers are shooting 26.1%.

Free throws are the difference in this game.

La Jolla Country Day is 10 for 16 from the charity stripe whle Serra is a woeful four for 12.
