It was close for the first eight minutes, but Arroyo Grande outscored Oxnard Rio Mesa 12-0 in the second quarter and is well on its way to winning the Southern Section Division 3AAA title at the Anaheim Convention Center.

The fourth-seeded Spartans have been unable to pass the ball inside, settling for perimeter jumpers late in the shot clock. They missed all nine of their shots in the second quarter and are 4 of 20 from the field, including 1 of 9 from three-point range.

Lindsey Wolf enjoyed a big first half for the third-seeded Eagles, making three of five shots for nine points. Arroyo Grande is helping itself at the foul line, converting 8 of 9 attempts.

Rio Mesa will have to get higher-percentage shots and play at a faster pace in the second half to get back in the game.
