Boys’ basketball: Mater Dei is No. 1, LB Poly No. 2 in SoCal Regional

Mater Dei is seeded No. 1, Long Beach Poly No. 2, Taft No. 3 and Loyola No. 4 for the 16-team Division I Southern California Regionals that begin on Wednesday.

A top opening game has Crenshaw at Loyola.

First round: Crescenta Valley at Mater Dei, Mission Viejo at Torrey Pines, Vista at Etiwanda, Crenshaw at Loyola, Clovis West at Taft, Westchester at Bullard, Dorsey at Orange Lutheran, Capistrano Valley at Long Beach Poly.

There could be fan-pleasing quarterfinal matchups of Loyola-Etiwanda and Orange Lutheran-Poly.

The regional final is scheduled for March 17 at Citizens Business Bank Arena in Ontario.
