Boys’ basketball: Mater Dei holds 27-21 halftime lead

Thanks to 12 rebounds by Xavier Johnson, Mater Dei holds a 27-21 halftime lead over Long Beach Poly in the Southern Section 1AA championship game at the Anaheim Convention Center.

Both schools struggled in the shooting department. Poly made eight of 32 shots. Mater Dei was eight for 30. Mater Dei made eight of nine free throws. Poly was three for seven.
