Boys’ basketball: Crusaders up 20-18 at halftime

Sun Valley Village Christian is clinging to a 20-18 advantage over defending champion Alameda St. Joseph Notre Dame at halftime of the CIF state Division V final at Power Balance Pavilion in Sacramento.

Guard Bryan Alberts was held scoreless in the second quarter but still leads the Crusaders with six points. Marquis Salmon, Kristian Robles and Marsalis Johnson have three apiece for Village Christian, which held the Pilots to four points in the first quarter.

St. Joseph Notre Dame is shooting a dismal six of 26 (23.1%) from the field. The Crusaders are six of 17 (35.3%) but are getting out-rebounded by a 20-14 margin. Senior guard Gemeny Givens has nine points to lead St. Joseph Notre Dame.
